Kate Raphael is an archaeologist. Her areas of interests include the study of ancient mosques and the expression and impact of Islamization on local landscape.  Among her publications are Muslim Fortresses in the Levant: Between Crusaders and Mongols (Routledge, 2011) and Climate and Political Climate: Environmental Disasters in the Medieval Levant (Brill, 2013).
